Founded on August 30th 1909 in Budapest, the International League Against Epilepsy is the earliest neurological society still in existence. From humble beginnings it now approaches its centenary boasting over 16000 members in nearly 100 countries. These committed individuals continue assiduously to pursue the League's objective: to improve the care, treatment and social standing of people with epilepsy. |
|

|
To mark the centenary in 2009, the League will produce a presentation volume of its history. Diligently researched, this book uses personal testimonials, published reports, the ILAE archives and research developments to provide a unique and detailed social and scientific history. It will include:
- The history of the ILAE
- The history of the journal, Epilepsia
- The history of epilepsy
- The history of epilepsy treatment

The present knowledge and position of epilepsy are best understood by considering its historical context and evolution in terms of treatment, science, public image of the disease, and the scientific and political challenges overcome by the League and its champions. The book will chart in detail the course of the ILAE and of epilepsy from 1909 to 2009. Much of this material comes from private sources and archives and has never before been published. |

|
The book will be over 300 pages in length, fully illustrated with historical pictures and photographs. Each copy will be lavishly produced, beautifully presented, and individually numbered and named. It will be a valuable volume which will grace the library of every epileptologist and bibliophile.
