Information material published and disseminated by your Chapter:
Articles by members of the Swedish Epilepsy Society are published
in Swedish medical and paramedical journals. SES has a homepage
where information material is gathered. (Http://www.svenskaepilepsisallskapet.c.se).
Members of the SES have written a book about epilepsy for patients
and families, which is now distributed by the patient organization.
Meetings
The Swedish Epilepsy Society's yearly autumn meeting was held
in Stockholm, November 12 - 13 1999. The theme of the educational
course was epilepsy - a window to the brain with invited speakers
from Sweden and abroad. One workshop on EEG-video monitoring in
preoperative epilepsy investigations has been held in Uppsla in
October 1999.
Activities in relation to the Global Campaign Against Epilepsy:
In 1999 the Global Campaign against Epilepsy coincided with the
Swedish Year of the Brain and many external and educational events
were held as a joint venture between the Global Campaign and the
Year of the Brain. Popular articles about epilepsy and about the
Global Campaign have been published. The European declaration on
epilepsy has been translated and published in extenso together with
an article focusing on the Global Campign Against Epilepsy. This
has also been published on the homepage of the Swedish Epilepsy
Society. Multiple educational activities such as public lectures
about epilepsy together with the patient organization has taken
place all over Sweden.
Summary statement:
The Swedish Epilepsy Society has a multiprofessional membership
with more than 300 members comprising not only epileptologists in
various medial specialties and basic science, but also nurses, psychologists,
EEG-technicians and social workers. SES has yearly educational activities
for its members and 1999 the yearly educational course was on epilepsy
- a window to understanding the brain. This activity was related
to the Global Campaign Against Epilepsy and the Swedish Year of
the Brain. One workshop was also held in 1999 on EEG-Video Epilepsy
monitoring.
