Appendix IV, EPILEPSIA ISSUES
The journal Epilepsia antedated the
founding of the International League Against Epilepsia. Its publication
was thrice interrupted thus creating four series.
The first series
The first series comprised a volume per year with four quarterly issues
each. Five volumes have been published from 1909-1915.
The periodical first appeared under the
patronage of W. Bechterew, O. Binswanger, J. Hughlings Jackson, L. Luciani, H.
Obersteiner and F. Raymond. A year later F. Déjérine replaced Raymond, and for
the fourth volume Hughlings Jackson was replaced by Sir William Gowers. Most of
the early numbers of Epilepsia were published by a consortium consisting
of Scheltema & Holkema (Amsterdam), Jacob Lund (Copenhagen), Baillière
& Fils (Paris), Williams & Norgate (London), G.E. Stechert & Co (New
York), J.A. Barth (Leipzig), and Nordiska Bokhandeln (Stockholm).
For all five volumes, which appeared until the
first World War put an end to this period, J. Donath from Budapest and L.J.J.
Muskens from Amsterdam were respectively Editor-in-Chief (Rédacteur-Gérant)
and Secretary of the Editorial Board (Secrétaire de la Rédaction).
The second series
This series had volumes spanning a four year period with one issue per year.

The fourth series
This is the present series. In the course of its existence, 1959-1999,
however, changes did take place, not only of editors, but also in number of
issues per volume and publisher. The volumes appeared annually, the present
volume being #40.
Volumes 1 - 18 had four issues per
volume, except the first volume which covered the years 1959/1960 and comprised
five issues with 611 pages (note on page 232, Volume 1).
Volumes 19 - 35 had six issues per
volume.
Volumes 36 -till now have 12 issues per
volume.
Volumes 1 - 16 were published by Elsevier
Publishing Company, Amsterdam.
Volumes 16 - the 8th issue of 36 by Raven Press, New York.
Volumes 36 issue 9 - 8th issue of 39 by Lippincott-Raven, Philadelphia.
Volumes 39 issue 9 - the present (September 1999) by Lippincott Williams &
